He's Sitting Up!

I feel like moms (or at least this mom) are always on the hunt for the next big milestone that their babies hit.  We're always asking other moms, "So when did your daughter roll over?" Or "How much does your son weigh?"  It's a strange game of comparisons.  In the end, we all know that every child is different and they all develop at their own pace.

I've joked that I could be a pediatrician because their answer to all the "new mom developmental questions" is the same: "Your child is an individual and will develop in his own time."  And if something is really bad, the pediatrician will just make you go to a specialist.  I'm pretty sure I could do that job.

But either way, James hit a big milestone yesterday!  He sat up on his own!  It's ironic that he actually figured it out because he still has not learned how to roll over in either direction.  We've been working with him on sitting for a few weeks and he would sit on his own for a second or two before he toppled over, but that was about it.  Yesterday he finally mastered the art.  I was shocked that he did so well.

At first, I was afraid to go in front of him to take a picture because I didn't want him to fall backwards.  So I just stayed behind him and took pictures of him sitting up...
But then I realized that he was doing great, so I ventured around to take a couple of pictures of him from the front.
Multitasking - Sitting up while sucking his hand.  He's quite talented.
I just couldn't get enough of him.  Later in the day (when he finally got out of his PJs), I got distracted while cleaning (note the vacuum in the background) and I had to sit on the floor with him and take more pictures.  Notice how James is like, "What?  Of course I'm sitting up.  What's all the fuss about?  I'm a pro at this."
Having lots of fun sitting up for the first time! I love this boy's smile and laugh.  It makes my heart melt!
So since he's supposed to roll over before he sits up, the big question lingers - when will he ever roll over?
