Date Night!

Earlier this evening, Ray and I went out for date night!  We seriously don't go out enough as just the two of us.  We are not really planners, so when we decide we want to go out to eat, we usually just take James with us because we decide last minute and we don't want to ask family last minute if they will drop everything to babysit.  However, recently, taking James out to eat has become more and more challenging.  Sometimes he's great, but most of the time he only has about 5 minutes of being content in his high chair before he wants food.  So we have to go somewhere where the food comes out fast.  Then, if he's hungry, he will be mostly content eating for about 10 minutes max.  So this means that Ray and I are shoving food in our mouths as fast as possible so that we can eat and pay before he starts getting impatient and begins the impulsive screaming.  It's all fine at home because we can just take him out of his high chair when he's done, but we obviously can't do that when we are out.  So, taking James out to eat often means that we are stressed and eating as fast as possible.  I really enjoy eating out, so this puts a damper on my experience.

BUT - tonight we had date night - without James!  It was beautiful.  We planned in advance and Ray's parents took care of James.  We went to Lucky 32 for dinner which is probably my favorite restaurant in Greensboro (along with Green Valley Grill).  I got my favorite dish there - shrimp and grits - along with green beans.  It was beautiful.  It melted in my mouth.  It was so relaxing to eat slowly, have meaningful conversation between bites, and just linger in the great ambiance.

We have to plan date night more often!  Which means that our family will get more opportunities to love on our sweet boy while we're gone.  I think it's a win-win for everyone!
